3 Ways To Modernize Vintage

What better way to gain expert fashion advice than from a leading fashion blogger? WOMN teamed up with our mysterious lady, Blvckmattr, whose style embodies modern sophistication and trend-forward edge. This fashion expert showed us an exclusive rundown on modernizing vintage clothing.

Here are three vintage looks with the Blvckmattr treatment, along with some tips on giving your vintage find a breathe of fresh air.

1. “Denim is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, yet it remains eternally young,” stated a writer in the 1969 American Fabrics magazine. This resilient quality is why we love a great denim jumpsuit! There is something extremely timeless and versatile about this piece.

Dress it down with a pair of Converse and a neck scarf. Or as Blvkmattr envisions, pair it with a sporty bralette, heel boots, and a choker. Add a topknot and you’re a throwback to the hottest 70’s babe at the auto-body shop.

2. The classic vintage wrap maxi has been a closet staple since the early 1960’s. This dress features a half button-up closure and fringe wrap detailing.

Blvckmattr added a pair of polished and modern Acne loafers, some delicate geometric jewelry, and a black mesh jumpsuit underneath, giving the dress a bold, risqué component.

3. Three great vintage finds complete this look: a vintage trouser to channel Grace Kelly, a fitted turtleneck, and a classic suede fringe jacket.

To pull the pieces together, Blvckmattr added a chic pair of gray tassel booties. This ensemble is perfect for layering during the holidays, and an adaptable winter-to-spring look.
